The most interesting feature of the rental car I am currently driving

…is this:

A glow-in-the-dark release cord you can pull to open the trunk from the inside.

I am sure this was not the actual reason for its development, but it’s hard to look at the graphic without thinking of all the movies wherein someone is trapped in that part of a vehicle.

Actually, that’s *totally* why that’s in there. Between kids fooling around in the car and locking their little sibs in the trunk, or victims actually getting stuffed in there, they started putting them in as a safety feature.

Others assured me of that as well. But see, I was thinking about, like, the movies where gangsters have someone in the trunk en route to rubbing them out in some secluded spot. Which is *probably* not what the car designers had in mind.

I especially love the graphic of the arching jump from the trunk. ‘Quick, run away!’

The Hangover. Terrible movie, but had a good scene with a nekid dude leaping out of the trunk.

Shouldn’t there be a safety disclaimer saying the car should be stopped when you jump out if the trunk?
