Four not terribly related things:

  • See what YA authors look like with our mouths open: a set of photos from the YA Author Coffee Klatch (which was super fun) is up. Here’s one: At the YA Author Coffee Klatch
I forget what I was explaining, but I look pretty intent about it.
  • Lovely hummus treatise by the equally lovely Hanne Blank.
  • Contrary to previous posts, I will not be attending the San Diego Comicon. I’m sad to miss the Comic Book Tattoo launch, not to mention seeing friends, but I decided it was more important to stay home and work so that I’ll have new comics, etc., in future. However, if you’re going, Steve will have some of my stuff at his table in Artist’s Alley. My Comic Book Tattoo story, “Take to the Sky,” is illustrated by the extremely talented Jonathan Case, and he’ll be there, too. You can buy Comic Book Tattoo at the Image Comics booth.
  • Fascinating look at the history of children’s librarianship & publishing and the clash of strong personalities on both sides (plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose): The Lion and the Mouse, by Jill Lepore. The lion is Anne Carroll Moore, the mouse, Stuart Little. (And/or E.B. White.) More: an audio interview with Lepore and White’s stepson Roger Angell.

The CCBC is talking about the Lion and the Mouse and Leonard Marcus’s new book “Minders of Make-Believe: Idealists, Entrepreneurs, and the Shaping of American Children’s Literature” on ccbc-net for the second half of July. Should be an interesting discussion!
