I commend you for having sidewalks upon which I can ride my bicycle, thus avoiding the scarier traffic on the busier thoroughfares, such as the Avenue of Roses. However, I must regretfully also mention that curb cuts are present only inconsistently, and that this, while inconvenient and slightly painful for a timid cyclist, is absolutely unacceptable for any travelers in wheelchairs, who are also not well served by telephone poles that stand in the middle of the sidewalk.
I will concede, however, that it was my own damn fault that, due to being in a reverie, I didn’t notice the protruding power box mounted on a (different) telephone pole until the last possible second, at which point I swerved to avoid running into it with my face, overbalanced, and acquired a fine collection of bruises.

July 29, 2008 at 7:00 pmI am sorry that you did not get to San Diego with us. I am also sorry that you are bruised.
One reason I don’t want Colleen to get a bike is because she is so often accosted by reverie.

July 29, 2008 at 8:48 pmAw, thanks Paul.
But I must say, getting bruised due to falling off my bike on the way home from a coffeeshop where I was writing does seem quintessentially Portland.
It was even Stumptown coffee.
