I keep throwing things out. The broken old stereo components and the broken old printer are gone. Why were they all in the under-the-stairs storage for over a year anyway? Did we think they’d magically regenerate if we left them in the dark?
I also let go of a disintegrating family heirloom. As the child of two librarians, one of whom worked in rare books and special collections, I don’t have family stuff so much as a museum and archive. Deaccessioning from it is hard, but sometimes necessary.
On this website, on the other hand, I’m reconstituting the past, at least fragments thereof. I’ve been blogging since 2002. There was a server crash in 2005 that destroyed just about everything I’d posted, and so I defected to LiveJournal for the next couple of years. But a few of my old entries are preserved in the amazing WayBack Machine, and so, just because I can, I’m going to cut, paste, and backdate them into this shiny new blog. I’m not sure if they’ll show up on the LJ feed or not. We’ll see.

Ah well. Fragments. Bits. If you’re utterly compulsive, which I can’t imagine why you would be, you can look at the comments via the WayBack Machine, too.
