So another thing about being sick is that pretty much all I want to do is sit slack-jawed in front of a screen.
Watched Enron: the smartest guys in the room and The Slasher: very different documentaries which have one thing in common: extremely good use of music.
Enron is, of course, about the downfall of the Enron corporation and the massive amount of fraud and misconduct that its executives and some of its workers perpetrated. (My hat is off to Sherron Watkins, whether or not she officially counts as a whistleblower. I’m not at all surprised that she has a speaking career now.) The soundtrack features a lot of Tom Waits, so obviously I’m predisposed toward it, but aside from how much I like the songs, they’re eerily appropriate: Temptation and God’s Away On Business especially.
And I was going to write more about The Slasher, but when I was looking for links for the songs, I found this, and really, you should all just watch it, because, animated short featuring an elderly rabbit, a persistent moth, and the music of the aforementioned Mr. Waits. (Why the hell have I never searched Tom Waits on YouTube before?)

March 2, 2007 at 11:06 pmI am sorry to hear you are sick. Jenn is, too. And Owen just got over something.
If you have not checked out http://www.supderdeluxe.com yet, go do. I am hooked on Maria Bamford’s lunatic show over there. I even got my own account, for really no better reason than to leave stupid comments.
Like, say, this one.
Get well soon.

March 3, 2007 at 7:54 amOh yeah — Didn’t that one start out showing the Enron skyscraper with: What’s he building in there? That was so perfect. I also liked the part where they showed the guy bicycling off the side of the cliff — perfect visual accompaniment for what they were describing. (Hi, I don’t think I’ve ever commented here before but I like your journal.)

gosh, we have several of the same ones. and hey, i will quarrel with you about tj’s girlfriend from transgeneration, if you’d like: she’s super earnest, certainly, but i think also very sweet. (did you see that he proposed to her onstage at the GLAAD media awards?)

March 4, 2007 at 3:21 pmWow, I had no idea about the onstage proposal! I’m actually kind of glad to hear that — things were looking so bleak for him at the end of the show. He was the one of the four that I was really worried about.
