Steve said I should add LT to my “occasionally updated social network presences” sidebar on sararyan.com, and I pointed out the inaccuracy. It’s more like obsessively updated, at least right now.
It’s making me think a lot about the books I own, why I have them. I still have a lot of the books I had in childhood. (Only child, daughter of librarians.)
When I add a title, I get flashbacks. Dad got hoarse from doing the orc voices in Lord of the Rings.
I was home sick and Mom read me archy and mehitabel while I drank 7-Up and ate saltines.
I like remembering, but it makes me melancholy, too. Oh, well.

February 8, 2007 at 7:05 pmI still have a lot of books from my childhood too– not as many as I used to have, but still tons nonetheless. Hopefully someday some child in my life will comb through my bookshelves and get enjoyment out of them.

February 8, 2007 at 7:06 pmMy parents are planning a vacation out to Maryland this summer, which puts them not too far from Chincoteague (OMG, I totally spelled that right on the first try, Firefox’s spell check be damned) which got me reminiscing about how I read the Misty of Chincoteague books when I was little and always wanted to visit the island. I’m debating if I want to join them on the vacation just so I could go there.

February 9, 2007 at 4:24 amOh, yeah?! Well, _my_ dad and mom _wrote_ short books starring me and archy. Ha!
And my dad got mildly mad at me because he was sick one day while reading the Chronicles of Prydain and by the time his voice recovered two days later I’d read the rest of the series (not aloud) because I couldn’t wait, and he was still in _The Castle of Llyr_.

February 9, 2007 at 7:04 pmI have passed on a few of my books from childhood onto my own children. I have no memories of my mother reading to me, mainly because, despite what she says, she didn’t. But hopefully Katie and Owen will have sweet/sad memories like the ones you record. The one about your dad put a lump in my throat, gawrsh.

February 16, 2007 at 10:44 pmYay! Someone I know on LibraryThing! I signed up ages ago and lost interest due to the lack of folks I knew. :) Check it! http://www.librarything.com/catalog/abberdab
It’s not exactly complete, but – hey! we already have 2 books in common. :D
