I’ve been away for weeks. As usual, once I get home, I immediately commence getting rid of things; probably the residual effect of being at my parents’ house. It’s not that they’re inveterate hoarders, but I’m just always very aware of the Stuff. (Perhaps the fact that I also watch way more television, including shelter-type shows, than I do when I’m home is another factor in the wanting-to-get-rid-of-things equation.)
Also: I do know that correlation is not causation. However: there is now an espresso bar in my parents’ town, on the street where we usually walk, and contrary to past experience, no one yelled abuse at us for being pedestrians.

December 4, 2006 at 6:37 amI get rid of stuff when I come home after being away. I don’t even have that much Stuff but it always feels like too much!
Eventually I’ll end up with only the bare necessities.. we’ll see.

December 4, 2006 at 8:45 amLike so many things in life, I think it’s a matter of having that brief break from our every day surroundings that makes them just enough less-familiar that we can be more objective. I spent most of Friday (after being in Italy for 8 days) eyeing my belongings and wondering how much I could dispose of without sending myself into a panic 24 hours later with having wiped out my book collection. :)
