Getting into the spirit

I’m so glad someone put my favorite holiday song on YouTube. I just keep clicking “Watch again.”

Other recommendations, y’all?

P.S. to those who’ve been asking: the kitten’s name is Snag. (And no, not in reference to his being a Sensitive New Age Guy.)

my god. i did not think it was possible for anyone to do anything to that song that did not make me want to claw out my own eyes, but that — that is excellent.

Tsk tsk! Cynics! Here’s the holiday playlist that’s going into heavy rotation at our place starting tonight. It’s pretty non-ironic, actually. It’s also, however, kinda melancholy and sad-bastardish.

Song for a Winter’s Night – Gordon Lightfoot (one of a number of Canadians on the list, as befits a wintery holiday)

The Christians & the Pagans – Dar Williams

    River – Joni Mitchell

In the Bleak Mid-Winter – Shawn Colvin

Little Drummer Boy – The Temptations (by far the best version of the best religious Xmas song ever)

Hockey – Jane Sibbery (She said of this song, when I saw her play it live, “this song is not a poem, it’s a painting.” A beautiful portrait of a Canadian childhood)

Christmas Time Is Here (instrumental) – Vince Guaraldi Trio (duh!)

There Is No Rose of Swych Vertu – Mediaeval Baebes

O Holy Night – Rickie Lee Jones with the Chieftains

2000 Miles (live version from “Isle of View”) – The Pretenders

25th December – Everything But The Girl

Sixteen, Maybe Less – Calexico with Iron & Wine

Carolina Christmas – Squirrel Nut Zippers (personal fave, it ain’t Xmas without this one for me. Rollicking!)

    Christmas Wrapping – The Waitresses

I’ll agree with Sean on the Waitresses and Squirrel Nut Zippers (disappointed that I couldn’t find that album during my holiday shopping today, in fact), and I’ll add ‘It’s Christmastime (oh yeah)’ by Barenaked Ladies, and well, the entire John Denver & The Muppets: A Christmas Together album.
