Overheard in PDX

At Tiny’s Coffee NE:

“She’s the biggest nerd, if she goes to a show it has to be something like the Mountain Goats –”

“God –”

“Yeah, I know, or Animal Collective, just awful, we have nothing in common.”

I will nerdily note that the Goats gots a new album out, and Jeopardy champ Ken Jennings likes it.

EDITED TO ADD: Ken Jennings reveals in that entry that John Darnielle’s voice reminds him of Kermit the Frog. And as a result, I am now desperate, desperate, desperate to hear a Mountain Goats cover of “Rainbow Connection.” I can almost hear it in my head: an insinuating, almost sneering quality for the line “Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?” — getting fervent for “Someday we’ll find it” and then half-whispered, quavery: “the lovers, the dreamers — and me.”

Totally going to request it at the next show.
