Black Hole

I read Black Hole by Charles Burns last night.

After I finished, I stayed up another hour making furious notes about everything it triggered. If you think of Fun Home as ultimately cerebral, this book is ultimately visceral.

Everyone, but especially capn_jil, if you haven’t read it yet, go, read.

I read Black Hole in serialized format over the years but the collected edition is sitting on my nightstand, waiting for a good long uninterrupted timespan so I can re-experience it all at once.

(It’s one of the few books that the mere idea of reviewing is daunting because I’d want to “get it right” and I suspect that my attempts to describe and analyze it would fall short of what’s captured in my head.)

I’ve read an issue or two of this guy’s shit. Now I am nervous as to why you single me out for its reading pleasure…

I’d be very curious to hear about what it triggered for you–I wrote about it in Salon a while ago, & LOVED it.
