A useful metaphor

It’s been a busy week so far, and I’ve been stressed. Not just stressed, but stressed to a ludicrous extent, out of proportion to the various stressors. I couldn’t figure it out, until I realized the problem: I had too many open tabs.

Too many works-in-progress, too many errands, too many people I needed to connect with about one thing or another.

As I close the tabs, I get more calm.

That is indeed a good metaphor. I think I have too many pop-up windows, too. That is, too many unexpected, unwanted distractions fragmenting my concentration and keeping me from doing what I need to do.

I just wanted to write and let you know that Empress was the first lesbian fiction book that I read and it has been such an inspiration. Thank you for writing it for people like me. I’ve always wanted to be a writer and your works have helped me to be motivated and to see that I could actually write about characters having the types of feelings that I have experienced myself. I am looking forward to reading your upcoming works and being continuously impressed by the way you write. -Erin Reilly
