Cookie fortunes I have saved

You deal with disappointment remarkably well.

You and your wife will be happy in your life together.

A heavy burden is lifted with a phone message or letter. (I got this one right before I found out — by phone — that Empress was going to be published.)

You will soon have a surge of creative energy.

Start writing — the answer will come to you.

(This one is my favorite.) When time permits, your personal life will be exciting.

…Who else saves fortune-cookie fortunes? What are the best — or worst — you’ve gotten?

I saved a number of them: the good ones relate to personal character; the lousy ones are generalizations… “A major change is imminent”…

I loved “You long to see the pyramids of Egypt.”

    Evocative and true!

Can we count Salada tea bags? Because once, when I was trying to decide if I should stay in my college town another year with my sweetie or move to San Francisco with some friends, I got “If you don’t know where you’re going, all roads are the right one.” It made me much less anxious about my decision.

I’ve kept a lot of fortunes (and the Promises that come inside of Dove Promises chocolates). I keep my favorites taped to the lid of my laptop to remind me of the way I like to think.

    Some of my favorites…

Your heart will make itself known through your words.

Change is happening with your life, so go with the flow!

    Love without rules.
    Never settle.
    Do what feels right.

Laugh uncontrollaby; it clears the mind.

I like watching the cookie_fortunes community to see what gets posted, too.

I have a few fortune cookie fortunes saved. But I much more frequently buy Jones Soda, which has little fortune/quote type things under theier caps. here’s a few I like:

    (from fortune cookies..)

In order to take, one must first give.

There is no wisdom greater than kindness.

You are more likely to give than give in.

He can who thinks he can, And he can’t who thinks he can’t. This is an indisputable law. (my favorite)

    (from Jones Soda caps..)

Your winsome smile will be your sure protection. (just got this one tonight)

Fear creates danger and courage dispels it.

    Concentration leads to success.

You have a way with words, maximize on it.

The winds of change approach. (My fav.. I actually wrote this little short story for a class after I got this one.)

I like all these ones ’cause I can really relate them to myself and various things that have happened to me, or are happening right now.

I do have one funny one from a fortune cookie. Well one of my friends gave it to me in a birthday card that him and a bunch of other friends from the club we were in (well.. I’m still there.. they’ve all graduated..). It says:

The secret of staying young is good health and lying about your age.

It’s funny because it was for my 14th birthday, but alot of the peoples in the club thought I was so much older for the longest time. (it’s a college club, and I was like a freshman in highschool..). okay, ha, maybe its not that funny, but I was laughing about it in my head for a while…

anyways… I’m gonna go read and eat brownies and sleep.

    nighty nights,
    ~Hannah

I’ve only ever saved one. I once began a novel with “Her fortune cookie said, ‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.'” It seems like a fortune-cookie thing to say, and it has a monumental affect on my main character.

About a week after I wrote that line, I got a fortune cookie with the saying in it. No kidding! So of course I saved it.

I read them before I decide to save them, and if I don’t like the fortune or if I don’t think it’s relevant, I don’t eat the cookie, thus cancelling the fortune. That’s how it works, right?

And yeah, I’ve saved tons. One headed me off a thesis topic I was anxious and ambivalent about, and several have reassured me at crucial moments, like quitting my job last year. But right this minute I can’t remember them. Most of them are folded up in my wallet or drawers, after their wallet life.

I tend to save them, but lose them after about a week. The best I’ve ever seen (recieved by my sister) read: Don’t kiss an elephant on the lips today.

I’ve been slightly afraid of the restaurant that gave it to her ever since.

I love them and keep them for ages, but don’t have a set place for them, so they turn up randomly as I go through the house.

My all time favorite: You will soon achieve perfection.

    I once got this:

“I’m so glad I got out of that cookie”

I laughed so hard, and of course, had to save it.

I also really liked one of those Dove Promises,
    it said:

    “Dare to love completely”

I just found this fortune sitting on the coffee table, as A. found ti when sorting papers last night. For some reason, I like it more and more each time I read it (comma splice and all):

You have unusual equipment for success, use it properly.

The two I happen to have pasted up in my office:

“To be mature is to accept imperfections.”

“Always accept yourself the way you are.”

My favorite was something along the lines of “Though it seems the forces are aligning against you, you will be fine.” I threw it away in a fit of guilt and have regretted it since….

    I have gotten:

“wise men learn more from fools than fools from the wise.”

But a good friend of mine once got (during college searching):

“Good Fortune awaits you at Western Dakota Tech.”

I’m not even kidding. She saved it until her pants went into the washing machine.

My all time favorite fortune from a fortune cookie is:

Someone from your past has returned to steal your heart.

I also like this one, “Love is what makes you smile when you are tired.”

I like collecting the Dove Chocolate wrappers and the Hershey Kiss Fortune ribbons, too!!!
