February 8, 2006 at 2:01 amHarperCollins reprinted this a few (more like five) years ago, but I’ve still never heard anyone talk about one of my favorite fantasies of all time: The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O’Shea. The characters and the story are utterly entrancing; I remember pieces of it easily, though I’ve not read it for years. Two Irish kids traipse through what feels like myth and legend even when it’s not, trying to stop the old spirit one of them has unwittingly freed. It’s creepy and funny and wonderful and I cannot recommend it enough.

February 8, 2006 at 12:41 pmThe Wishing Stairs! It’s a Korean movie full of school-girl love and cuteness ^_^ It’s labeled as Horror, but I find it more sweet *shrug* It’s the last in a trilogy, and I tried to watch the second one, Memento Mori, too.. but I couldn’t stand that sadness of it *sob* T-T
Great movie to watch with your girlfriend ^_~

February 8, 2006 at 3:38 pmVery Far Away from Anywhere Else by Ursula K. LeGuin. But I’m guessing that you, a Portland youth librarian, has at least heard of it. 87 skinny pages that rocked my world. Some up-and-coming young director really needs to make a film version for $20k.

February 9, 2006 at 1:20 amOh my god that was a great movie. I saw it like 3 times. What’s scary is that before the whole horror happened and they walk by the stairs you could see that face that comes out later in the movie.
The most scariest movie is something sisters. it takes place like in the forest.
You shouldn watch “memories of a murder” its based on a true story about the murders in japan and its hilarious though. specially that one detective that likes to dropkick everyone for no reason. i recommend that movie.
i have a question, in the movie the wishing stairs, are they gay. i got confused. they had a really close relationship?

February 9, 2006 at 6:41 amYeah, I saw the face XD They showed her being painted into the wall in the Making of the Movie on the DVD ^_^
Hmm.. I’ll see if I can find “Memories of a Murder” around, thanks :P
Anou.. well, I only saw it once, and that was a couple months ago.. I guess I could see how the ‘Close Friendship’ would be possible.. but we can dream, right? XD Actually, I just can’t remember. I can’t remember any dialog or scenes that directly state ‘These girls are in love,’ but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t any, and again, it has been a while since I seen it. *shrug*
Memento Mori does directly deal with a secret relationship.. but don’t see it unless you’re ready for a heartbreak T-T

February 10, 2006 at 5:36 amBook: Emma Who Saved My Life (Wilton Barnhardt)
Movie: The Year My Voice Broke (written & directed by John Duigan)
Both of these are utterly charming and so bittersweet. I can’t think of a graphic novel obscure enough. Guess I have some more reading to do!
