In the last few hours before we get on the plane, we’re watching The Lion in Winter, for the zillionth time. Among the things you learn from Anthony Harvey’s commentary:
There’s a scene near the beginning — Richard (Anthony Hopkins) has just thrown his opponent in a joust. Hopkins raises his sword over his head, about to kill the fallen enemy. His expression is incredibly intense, he’s sweating. I’d always thought of it as a brilliant bit of acting.
In point of fact, one of his arms was broken at the time.
Also: Peter O’Toole called Kate Hepburn “Nag” and she called him “Pig” throughout the filming.
I love a good DVD commentary. I think it’s a librarian geek tendency; like loving annotations or marginalia.
